Let's all go to the movies!

Before I start talking about movies, let me make note of blog spam. Spammers have programs that can insert comments into your blog automatically. You may not even be notified via e-mail that you got a comment. One day you'll go back and read an old post and find that you have advertisements for all sorts of crap instead of well-thought-out comments from loyal readers. To combat this, the programmers at blogger have added a new feature. Log into your blogger dashboard and change the settings. On the comments tab, there is an option to turn on word verification for comments. Now, when a user wants to comment on your blog, they have to type in the word they see displayed on the screen. This will stop those spam programs from working (well, it'll stop most of them). So don't delay. Go turn it on.


Anyway, back to movies. Let's talk about 2 movies I've seen recently.

1. The Aristocrats. Not to be confused with the Aristocats. There are no cartoon cats here. This is a documentary, directed by Penn & Teller, about a joke. It's a joke that is almost never told to a real audience. Comedians tell it to each other at parties. Here's how the joke goes: A man, his wife, his son, and his daughter, all walk into a Talent agent. The man says, "We have a great family act that you gotta see!" so the Talent agent says "Go ahead, show me your act." and this is where the comedian improvises. He begins to make up the most insanely gross and disturbing (yet funny) act he can think of. A tame explanation is would be something like "So the man and wife drop their pants and take a crap on the floor. Then the kids run in and dive through the crap like a slip n slide while the adults pee on them. Then they all roll around and wrestle and have sex with each other." So then they finish and the talent agent says, "Wow...just out of curiosity, what do you call this acts?" and the guy says "The Aristocrats!"

The point of the joke is to go as long as you can without repeating yourself. So throughout the movie, they interview at least 25 comedians who explain what they believe should be in the joke. Basically you need defecation, urination, blood spilling, incest, beastiality, and maybe even dead people. I know that sounds gross, but it's hilarious. You won't stop laughing through the entire movie...and at some parts you'll start laughing harder. Highlights of the movie were Drew Carey, Gilbert Godfrey, Bob Saget, and Sara Silverman. It's in limited release so go find a Ritz and watch this.

2. Four Brothers. I saw this last night. Don't worry, I won't give away any plot points in my review. So this story is about 4 adopted men who's foster mother is killed in a convenience store robbery. The brothers don't think that it was an accident. They are sure that there is some kind of conspiracy going on. So throughout the movie, they attempt to find out who killed her, why they killed her, and then get some revenge. 15 minutes into the movie, it becomes unrealistic. It's full of public shootings, crooked cops, and gasoline being poured on people. Now, that being said, if you want to see a movie that doesn't make you think, about some guys getting revenge and taking the law into their own hands, then go see it. I actually really enjoyed it. But if you start to analyze each characters behavior then you'll see too many plot holes and not enjoy the movie anymore. Surprisingly good performances by Tyrese Gibson and Andre 3000. All 4 brothers really did a good job of acting like they were family. That really helps.


So that's all. I don't have much else to say this week. Except that my little sister is going to college tomorrow. Rutgers. Man I feel old.
