Zombie Squirrel VS Zombie Blue Jay

While talking about something random through facebook, a friend posed the question: Who would win in a fight? A zombie squirrel or a zombie blue jay?

It's a question asked in job interviews - and lets the interviewer analyze your deductive reasoning. Ever since that day I've been thinking about my answer. And I came up with 2 of them.

The first answer is that it's a trick question and neither of them would win. When was the last time you saw 2 zombies fighting each other? They don't. They just want to eat living flesh. And even when multiple zombies are eating one person, you don't see much in-fighting among them.... which certainly should be researched a little more... because it's an interesting topic. But I digress...

Let's go ahead and assume that there is some magical reason for the two to fight. Here are the important bits...

1. How do you define "win" ? They are already un-dead and lack the cognitive ability to retreat or surrender. So I guess you go with the universal killing method: Remove the Head or Destroy the Brain.

2. Are we talking about traditional George Romero zombies? Or Zack Snyder zombies? One is slow, lumbering, and uncoordinated. The other is fast and rabid, like the "infected" in 28 Days Later (Not the Sandra Bullock movie).

3. What kind of physiological shape are they in at the beginning of the fight? Any gaping head wounds? Does the squirrel have the use of his claws? Can the bird fly and use its talons?

The bird has a beak. That could be used to poke through the squirrel's eye and destroy the brain. But the squirrel has those strong teeth that could gnaw off the bird's neck and remove the head. So they both have a weapon here.

Even if the bird can fly, which I doubt it can, it's going to break a wing in this fight. Then it's on the ground. And once that happens, the squirrel's superior reflexes are going to give it a major advantage.

The only chance the bird has at winning is if it can swoop in and take the squirrel out on its first try.

I think there are just too many advantages here for the squirrel. Unless something out of the ordinary happens, that squirrel is gonna be the victor.
